Become a Mentor


 

Who Are The Mentors ?

  • Mentors are everyday people.

  • They might be homemakers, college students, retirees, military personnel, factory workers or rocket scientists

  • They might be rich or poor short or tall

  • Mentors do not have to have any special training or education

Mentors Are:

  • At least 18 years of age with a valid drivers license and reliable transportation

  • Ordinary people who are willing to VOLUNTEER their time to share their hobbies/talents       

  • People who want to make a difference     

  • Able to relate to children and adults    

  • Mature, reliable, and of good character  

  • Are able to make a commitment to spend 4 hours a month for one year with a child

How do I become a mentor:

  • Potential volunteers contact The Guidance Center and we gather some basic information

  • We will mail you an application and schedule an interview with you

  • At the time of your interview, we will provide an orientation and answer all of your questions

  • Following your interview, Big Brothers Big Sisters program staff will complete your background and referance checks

  • One the process is complete you will be placed on a waiting list until an appropriate match can be made
